Stressful start to the morning trying to get Sydney Radiohead tickets... But it all worked out in the end - I now have tickets to the Brisbane show, so I can now go with my little brother (who I spent many many teenage hours with discussing and listening to the amazing talent that is Radiohead). Also, it's the first day of Autumn - my favourite season!!! Yay!
Ok, I know everyone is obsessing over the new Maurie and Eve Bowie pants in the Borderline print - I mean, how can you not? But personally my heart skipped a beat upon seeing these beauties! My new lusty-perfect outfit for Autumn: the Bowie shorts in Jaquard, and the Lennox jumper... Such amazing pieces and an even better combination. Ideally though, I'd wear them with my Sam Edelman suede boots. I'm sure David and Annie would be pleased either way!
Maurie and Eve available at David Jones, Westfield.
"Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like thorn."
- Romeo, Romeo + Juliet.
No, love is not a tender thing. But it is most certainly the greatest part of living...
As I've said previously, loudly and often, I am a hopeless romantic. When I was younger I fought this fact about myself aggressively so as to not appear to be a sap in front of my much cooler friends. Over the years however I've come to realise that resistance is futile. I'm a lover. I fall quickly and I fall hard, and the agony when that love is not reciprocated feels as though I fell on the pavement from some lofty height.
But I don't see that as a bad thing anymore. The most beautiful moments in life often happen when we throw ourselves into something completely and without thought, giving over to the most raw and primitive gut-emotions deep down inside of us. Unfortunately, as was also the case when I was younger, these are hard times for dreamers. Society feels so cynical, so cautious, so calculated. Gone are the days of simplicity and courtship, the days of saying what you feel and meaning it whole heartedly. When did it become so bad to be in love?
I know two people who met last year by literally locking eyes across a room, striding towards each other, and locking lips - no words exchanged. Those two people are now in the midst of planning their wedding. Blissfully happy. When this story is being told to new listeners I watch for their reactions - sniggers, disbelief, half-hearted words of encouragement and congratulations. Granted, their are still a few who hear this story and react as I did..... Overwhelming joy at the knowledge that love like this still exists, mixed with a deep-seated longing for that love to find me. And those two give me hope. I am so inexplicably proud of their belief in that instant and all-consuming love - it takes bravery.
So my message to the world is to take back bravery. Believe in a kind of love that opens your soul wide when you find it, and don't be afraid of losing it, for true pain means true love and the strength of character that comes from allowing it.
I met Leeanna at Bondi Markets today and was intrigued by her hat. It was one of those just-so-perfect hats that a few friends I know have been looking for. It was only after she told me that she had added the feather herself that my interest was heightened.
The story goes that she had found an owl dead on the road and thought it was beautiful, if not a little morbid. A friend had told her that owl feathers were highly sought after because they are such wondrously spiritual creatures, and also because their feathers are formed differently to other birds - designed for silent flight and camouflage. So upon finding the owl and how beautiful it's feathers were, she plucked a couple to put in her hat. She was worried I would think she was a nutcase but quite the contrary - I'm happy the owl didn't die for nothing in the end! Her friend however I am worried about; she told Leeanna she should have taken the whole wing! I'm glad she didn't...
Leeanna makes dreamcatchers from things she finds and gives them to friends.. I hope she starts selling them though! I'd love an owl feather dreamcatcher made by Leeanna.... I've been a fan of hers since I was quite young. For those who haven't recognised her, she is an Australian actress best known for her role as Carly Bishop in Looking For Alibrandi (an all-time favourite of mine). It was so much fun meeting her, and a very unique conversation that I won't forget anytime soon!
1. Kimchi Blue shorts, Joanie Loves Chachie shirt, Sam Edelman boots
2. Kimchi Blue shorts, Acne shirt, Sporstgirl shoes
At the moment I'm obsessed with these lace edged shorts I got from Urban Outfitters a few years ago. Can't stop wearing them on my days off - they're so comfortable!
I have mentioned before how happy the usually sorrowful shade of blue makes me. How wonderfully uplifting to see so many variations in one outfit! Sky, cobalt, indigo... Oh the delight. Now just imagine if that black panel was navy....
